DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION : A VIEW

The department of Education is a small yet unique department of Christ College. The department of Education came into existence with the opening of education Hons. and Pass at +3 level. The total sanctioned strength of Hons. seats was 32 and pass 64. Gradually pass seats were converted into education elective seats. Mrs. Sunanda Das was appointed as lecturer in Education to impart knowledge and information to the students. Initially there was only one batch of students of Education Hons. Still that was a great experience of delivering the lessons to the young generation in an institution like Christ College which has a great work culture. Currently, there are more than hundred Hons. Students in our department pursuing their graduation course. Students from other department are also quite interested to take ‘Education’ as their Elective Subject. In 2006, Mr. BinodBihariRath joined as lecturer in education and rendered support for the smooth functioning of the department in 2012. Mrs. Arpita Singh joined as a faculty member and proved herself to be a very cooperative and efficient staff member. In 2018, Mrs. Kabitasenapati joined us as a faculty member. She is also working hard for the betterment of our department. We all work as a family and give importance to team teaching. All teachers try to pay individual attention to each and every student.

Social Thrust of the Department of Education

Department of Education, Christ College has made an outstanding contribution to the society. It enables the students to learn the art of teaching, so that they can teach well. It motivates the students to make others literate by involving themselves in various literacy programmes. Our students are playing their roles to eradicate illiteracy from slum areas. They go to various slum areas and teach the illiterate people there. The development of reading, writing and arithmatic is given special importance. Only gaining of marks and grades is not what we expect from our students. We want allround development of their personality. Teachers of our department consider students as their own children. We work sincerely to develop more cultivated citizens with good moral conduct, in-depth knowledge and good character. Being social engineers, the faculty members of education department work together as a team to foster an all-round development in our students. Teachers not only work for their cognitive development but special emphasis is also given on the affective and psychomotor domain. We follow lecture method and classroom discussion method. Teachers take special efforts to cater to the educational needs both in English and Odia medium of instruction. We also provide proper guidance to our students to solve their educational and personal problems. Educational, vocational and personal guidance is given to our students.
